At 13, Chris Georgiev is the youngest participant at the Port Moody Youth Arts Festival - a little bit of trivia the Scott Creek middle student is happy to share.

And he's just as eager to perform among his artistic peers.

"It's called the City of the Arts and I want to show my art to everyone here," he said during an interview at PoMo city hall with his grandmother, who was visiting from her native Bulgaria.

Georgiev's craft is magic, a medium he fell in love with after watching Vancouver magician Vitaly Beckman at a live show. The Port Moody resident learned his techniques from online videos, reading books, visiting magic shops and studying popular performers Chriss Angel and David Copperfield.

Now, after two years of practising, Georgiev has about 50 card tricks up his sleeve as well as disappearing acts. "Sometimes, I just make them up," he said.

He likes the reaction he gets from his classmates - and his grandmother. "When I do a trick, her face goes like this," he said, with a drop jaw and wide eyes.

Georgiev hopes for the same response during his routine at 8:45 p.m. on Saturday at the Port Moody Youth Arts Festival.
