A francophone choir in Coquitlam marked its 49th year with a Christmas concert this month.

And, last week, Les Echos du Pacifique shared a video of Chantons Noel! that was filmed at St. Laurence Anglican Church in Coquitlam.

Directed by Marla Mayson with Zsuzsuanna Lukacs on piano, the 18-member ensemble sang in French, English and Latin to celebrate "the mood of the holiday season," said president Shawn Brouwer.

Among the tunes on the program were:

  • "O Magnum Mysterium" by Ivo Antognini
  • "Voila le Pere Noel" by La Bolduc, a Quebecois composer
  • "Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" composed by Matthew Culloton and based on the poem by Robert Frost

"I am so proud of the choir and this concert in particular, which was one of our best yet," said Mayson in a news release.

Julie Begg also made a guest appearance on the clarinet.

The 42-minute event on Dec. 10 was recorded by Nor'Ouest Inc., Les productions Rivard and WebOuest.

Meanwhile, the Maillardville-based choir will perform at the 34th annual Festival du Bois at Mackin Park in Coquitlam on March 23, and its golden anniversary show is scheduled for May 13, 2023.
