The man behind such classic songs as “I Walk the Line,” “A Boy Named Sue” and “Folsom Prison Blues” will be celebrated this and next month in Coquitlam.
And First Impressions Theatre has some of the North Shore’s best musicians to tell the story and share the repertoire of the legendary Johnny Cash.
Musicians Mark Richardson, Kate Johnson, Derek Maroney, Emma Thorpe and Shawn Salsiccioli will be joined on the Evergreen Cultural Centre stage by actors Michael Robert Bernard, Sabrielle McCurdy-Foreman, Kailley Roesler, Dane Warren, Michelle MacTaggart and Gordon Roberts for Ring of Fire.
Adapted from the Broadway production by Richard Maltby Jr. and Jason Edwards, the musical tribute to the “Man in Black” runs at the Pinetree Way venue from Sept. 27 to Oct. 1 at 7:30 p.m. (a matinee is on Saturday).
Cash, who died in 2003, was a singer–songwriter with a bass–baritone voice and led the band Tennessee Three; he also had a successful solo career.
His life was captured in the 2005 film Walk the Line with Joaquin Phoenix portraying the leading man. Cash sold more than 90 million records, spanning such musical genres as country, rock ’n roll, rockabilly, blues, folk and gospel.
First Impressions Theatre is based at the Deep Cove Shaw Theatre.
