Coquitlam's Colony Farm Regional Park will become the stage for A Midsummer Fête this Sunday - an event featuring storytelling, music, art installations, a labyrinth, tea party and roving characters in a modern take on the traditional English summer festival.
It's the fourth year for the event, which is organized by the Public Dreams Society and Metro Vancouver parks.
Children and adults alike can learn about beekeeping, organic gardening, birds of prey and more in interactive workshops led by artists, naturalists and field experts.
Little ones will be able to create a bee puppet and "buzz" around the site, pollinating giant paper flowers, in between hula hoop sessions and potato sack races.
The event runs from 1 to 5 p.m.; parking is free but limited. A shuttle bus will depart from Lougheed SkyTrain station every 15 minutes starting at 12:30 p.m.
Families are welcome to bring a picnic, or check out the small farmer's market with a handful of food vendors. Admission is a $5 donation per person.
