Families and movie lovers looking for some free entertainment this summer can bring lawn chairs, blankets and bug spray to watch one of several outdoor flicks in the Tri-Cities.

FreshAirCinema is partnering with a number of B.C. organizations to offer movie nights around the province - at no cost to participants - on a three-storey inflatable screen.

The company and Team Léo of RE/MAX All Points Realty are screening Gnomeo & Juliet on Saturday at around 9:30 p.m. at Blue Mountain Park (975 King Albert Ave., Coquitlam). To RSVP a spot, call 604-936-1111 or email [email protected]. Donations will be accepted for the BC Children's Hospital.

And, on Sunday, FreshAirCinema and Vancity are presenting Back to the Future at around 8:30 at Rocky Point Park in Port Moody as part of the credit union's 65th anniversary celebrations. Vancity staff will be on hand to talk about the company's social enterprises and there will be a by-donation fundraiser for local charities.

FreshAirCinema is also returning to Coquitlam on Aug. 10 at 8:30 p.m. to show a movie at Coquitlam Centre mall. For more information, visit freshaircinema.ca or www.facebook.com/outdoormoviesBC.

As well, the city of Port Coquitlam will host its annual Cinema Under the Stars. Four movies will be shown on a 26-foot tall screen on Friday nights: July 8 (Avatar, 9 p.m., Sun Valley Park); July 22 (Blindside, 9 p.m., Gates Park); Aug. 5 (Star Trek 2009, 8:30 p.m., Gates Park); and Aug. 19 (Hairspray, 8:30 p.m., Aggie Park).

The movies are being reeled out as part of the Summer in the City series, which is sponsored in part by The Tri-City News, G&F Financial and Alliance Printing. For more information, call 604-927-8400 or visit www.portcoquitlam.ca/arts.

Meanwhile, in August, Coquitlam Centre mall will put on its family drive-in movie nights. Show times for PG-rated films are at dusk on Aug. 10, Aug. 17 and Aug. 24 in the parking lot by H&M and Zellers, off Pinetree Way; admission is $10, which will be donated to the Share Family and Community Services.

Advance passes are available at the mall's guest services. Parking starts at 8 p.m. is on a first-come, first-serve basis for vehicles without passes. For more information, visit coquitlamcentre.ca.
