All things small and beautiful are sought for an annual Christmas show at a Coquitlam arts centre.
Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave.) is asking artists specializing in miniature crafts to apply for the Positively Petite exhibit, which runs Nov. 15 to Dec. 21. Works in any media are eligible for entry and may be two- or three-dimensional. The deadline for submissions is Oct. 14. And returning artists are asked to deliver their work, with artwork identification cards attached, between Nov. 2 and Nov. 8.
For more information, visit www.placedesarts.ca (go to Galleries & Shop and How to Exhibit ) or call Michelle Chan at 604-664-1636, ext. 32.
ADULTS, TOO
Why just sign the kids up for arts programs this fall? Coquitlam's Place des Arts has a number of music, drama and dance classes geared for adults, too.
Starting next month, the Maillardville facility is offering taiko drumming, cello ensemble, intro to theatre and ballet courses for beginners and returning students (the ballet sessions are held at PdA's satellite venue, in the rehearsal studio at Evergreen Cultural Centre). To register, visit placedesarts.ca.
LATIN SOUNDS
A Coquitlam singer is scheduled to be in Costa Rica on a concert tour next year with her choir. Juliana Carpenetti will be with the BC Girls' Choir for the 10-day trip under the direction of Fiona Blackburn.
"Touring is an essential aspect of our program," Blackburn said in a news release. "We love to share our music beyond our borders. This trip is particularly interesting, as we will be giving educational outreach performances at three schools."
The tour will cap off the choir's most exciting season to date, which will include a Christmas performance at the Orpheum Theatre with the Vancouver Chamber Choir and opera star Ben Heppner.
Meanwhile, the girls' choir is accepting auditions for later this month. Visit www.bcgirlschoir.org.
