Vancouver artist Natalie Purschwitz will open her exhibit on Saturday at Coquitlam's Evergreen Cultural Centre that looks at trends, collecting, textiles and the imbedded history in objects.

Inspired by her residency at La Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris, her display, titled Natalie Purschwitz: Rituals, is shown through performance, installation, fashion and art.

In her project called Makeshift (seen above), Purschwitz uncovers a year-long study of wearing self-made clothes; it was documented in a blog and unveiled at the Vancouver Art Gallery in 2010.

For the ECC exhibit, she has added new designs for Fakeshift.

Purschwitz will be at the ECC art gallery from noon to 4 p.m. on Sunday to transform objects into jewellery; anyone wanting to take part should bring something no bigger than a tennis ball.

The opening reception for Rituals follows, from 4 to 6 p.m.
