Are you interested in trying something new but have a hard time committing to a weekly program?

This winter, Port Coquitlam's Leigh Square kicks off Leighsure Time: four new drop-in programs held at The Gathering Place. The flexible, open nature of these programs allows participants to attend all sessions or drop in whenever they want. No pre-registration required. The programs are for people of all ages and while those under the age of 13 years are encouraged to participate, they must be accompanied by a guardian (with the exception of The Comic Book Shop for ages 13 to 17).

Among the programs:

Movie night (alternating Mondays, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.) will screen independent and famous films, from short documentaries to the works of big-name directors, every second Monday starting on Jan. 21. Viewers may bring their own snacks and drinks. You can keep an eye on the Leigh Square Facebook page to see what will be screened. Admission: $4.

Coffee and writing night (alternating Mondays, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.) will begin Jan. 28 and attendees have a chance to relax and work in the company of other writers in the community and share work - swap stories, read books, or work on your magnum opus. All skill levels are welcome. Cost: $2.

The Comic Shop youth art drop-in (Thursdays, 4 to 5:30 p.m.) is free to attend and begins Jan. 24 and will take place every Thursday. Each session will begin with brief lesson in comic history and technique followed by two hours of free work. Participants will learn techniques in drawing and colouring, but also the techniques that make cartooning a unique art form, such as paneling, format, lettering, effects and others. For ages 13-17 years.

Board game night (Tuesdays, 3:30 to 6:30 p.m.) is free and will start April 2 and feature a variety of new and classic board games. Bring your own board games and some friends, or come alone and join any group.
