Nominations open to recognize Coquitlam champions protecting Mother Earth

Do you know someone who is worthy of an award for taking care of the environment? You have until May 8 to nominate a champion for an Environmental Achievement accolade from the City of Coquitlam.

Do you know someone worthy of an award for taking care of the environment?

You have until May 8 to nominate a champion for an Environmental Achievement accolade from the City of Coquitlam.

The municipality is currently calling for entries to recognize volunteers, educators, youth, children or groups that safeguard Mother Earth.

Prizes will be handed out for the following categories:

  • Individual (Green Sprout): ages three to 12
  • Individual: ages 13 to 18 
  • Individual: ages 19 and over
  • Teacher or educator
  • Youth group: school or club
  • Adult group: organization, service club, etc.
  • Lifetime achievement: 20 years or more of volunteer experience

Nominees don’t have to be Coquitlam residents; however, their work should be in Coquitlam or have a direct benefit to the community.

Some environmental projects happening in Coquitlam include:

  • cleaning up litter
  • removing invasive plants
  • restoring salmon habitat 
  • marking storm drains
  • planting pollinator gardens

Go to coquitlam.ca/enviroawards to fill out the online nomination form. Supporting documentation — including photos — is also encouraged.
