First home buyer's workshop: Come out to the Terry Fox Library and learn how to go about finding and purchasing your first home. You can join a panel of professionals including a realtor, home inspector, mortgage broker and a financial planner. Topics include choosing a realtor, property types, saving for a down payment, mortgages and why and how to get a home inspection. Get a great start on finding the ideal property and learn what to do once you have found it, plus a whole lot more. If you have bought a home before and you want a refresher on the process or just want to pick up some up-to-date information, you're welcome to attend, too, on Tuesday, Feb. 5 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m.

Computer Basics (registration required): If you have basic keyboard and mouse skills, you are ready for the next step. Go to PMPL on Jan. 29 from 2 to 3 p.m. or 7 yo 8 p.m. for an introduction to basic computer vocabulary. You will also learn about the desktop and create documents and folders (using Windows 7). Space is limited; call 604-469-4577 to reserve a computer.
Internet Basics (registration required): On Feb. 5 from 2 to 3 p.m. or 7 yo 8 p.m., you can learn what you need to know to access the internet. This class covers the basic toolbar buttons, internet terminology, printing and searching techniques. Basic keyboard and mouse skills are required.
Ex Libris Talking Book Club: This discussion group is primarily for print-disabled or visually impaired persons, although everyone is welcome. The next meeting will be on Friday, Feb. 1 from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. in PMPL's ParkLane Room.
Twilight Tales (drop-in): Parents and kids can join the Fuzzy Slippers Librarian for a relaxing half-hour of stories, songs and more. Come in pyjamas or bring your favourite stuffed friend. This program is held on the last Tuesday of the month from 6:30 to 7 p.m. and the next Twilight Tales is on Jan. 29 in the Storytelling Circle.

Better at Home: A Non-Medical Support Program for Seniors: Presented by the United Way of the Lower Mainland and funded by the province, the Better at Home program is designed to help seniors with simple non-medical tasks, such as house-keeping, grocery shopping, yard work, snow removal, simple home repair, transportation to appointments, and friendly visits. Linda Western, community developer for Better at Home, will be at the library for two sessions to speak about the program with seniors and non-profit community groups dedicated to serving seniors: Feb. 13, 10:30 a.m. to noon in Room 3 at the City Centre branch; Feb. 15, same time, in the Nancy Bennett Room at the Poirier branch.
