The Port Moody Ecological Society needs more than eager hands to put salmon fingerlings in the water during its 23rd annual Fingerling Festival on Saturday May 3.
Volunteers are also needed to cook and sell hot dogs, as well as chips and drinks in the food tent. Shifts are from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and noon to 4 p.m. and volunteers can work in groups.
The Food Save Certificate is an asset but not essential.
The annual event is the society's only fundraiser of the year and money raised helps the volunteer operated non-profit society run a salmon hatchery, water quality laboratory, school programs and community out reach.
This year's Fingerling Festival at the hatchery at Noons Creek (next to the Port Moody Recreation Centre), will see 40,000 fingerling (juvenile salmon) placed into the creek for their journey out to sea. There will be children's entertainment and displays and presentations for more than 60 environmental organizations. More information is available at http://noonscreek.org.
