More than a dozen members with the Tri-City Potters' Group will sell their wares this weekend at the non-profit's first Christmas event. Handcrafted, functional ceramics such as plates, bowls and teapots will be available for purchase from the artisans at Ysabella Choung's business, Spatial Art Studio (C-2415 Clarke St., Port Moody) on Friday from 4 to 8 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Sunday from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Visit tricitypotters.ca.

HOCKEY TIME

The Coquitlam Express Jr. 'A' hockey club will honour the original Coquitlam junior hockey franchise and its owner, Sandy Michie, by wearing replica 1975 Comets jerseys as they battle the Penticton Vees at 7 p.m. at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St., Coquitlam). The Comets were part of the Pacific Coast Junior Hockey League from 1974 to 1979 when it merged with the BCHL; the team competed until 1981. ONE ACT

The Best Players at Coquitlam's Dr. Charles Best secondary will present a one-act play festival featuring Woody Allen's Death, A Story of Chelm by Linda Shapario and Driver's Test by Alden R. Carter. The productions run tonight and tomorrow at 7:30 p.m. at the school (2525 Como Lake Ave.). Tickets at $10/$8 are available at the door.

CZECH MATE

The Czech community group Theatre Around the Corner presents Jiri Brdecka: Lemonade Joe at Port Moody's Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Dr.) tonight and tomorrow at 8 p.m. Tickets for the Old Wild West musical parody are $23 through theatrearoundthecorner.ca. XMAS SHOPPING

Port Coquitlam's Trinity United and St. Catherine's Anglican churches (2211 Prairie Ave.) host a Christmas bazaar selling baked goods, luncheon and other treats. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Call 604-942-0022. Meanwhile, in Coquitlam, the Friendship Baptist Church (2950 Dewdney Trunk Rd.) has its craft fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., with raffle prizes, arts and crafts and baked goods. Free entry.

The Tri-Cities' branch of the Royal Society of St. George hosts a pre-Christmas lunch at 11:30 a.m. at the Royal Canadian Legion (2675 Shaughnessy St., Port Coquitlam). The buffet menu includes roast turkey, cranberry sauce, stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, mixed vegetable medley, dessert tea and coffee. WATER POLO

Girls aged six and up can try their hand at water polo at a free event offered by the Coquitlam Lions Water Polo Club, from noon to 2 p.m. at the City Centre Aquatic Complex (1210 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam). LIVE ART

View artist Keith Rice-Jones at work in the Evergreen Cultural Centre gallery from 1 to 5 p.m. A retired art teacher from Port Moody secondary, Rice-Jones has a new exhibit at the Coquitlam centre (1205 Pinetree Way), titled Working the Edge: A (Mostly) Ceramic Journey. HISTORY BUFF

Join historian John Mitchell as he weaves the tale of Sandon, B.C.'s first city to be fully electrified. Now a ghost town, Sandon boomed in the 1890s with the silver trade. THAT'S UGLY

Sport your old sweater for the Ugly Sweater Run around Coquitlam's Lafarge Lake, taking place between 2 and 4 p.m. off Pinetree Way. Dubbed the Ugliest 5k on the Planet, the run by the Now That's Ugly Society supports the Children's Wish Foundation. The cost is $40 per person. Register at nowthatsugly.com.

HOCKEY CAUSE

Support the Coquitlam Minor Hockey Association as its hosts its second annual Coaches vs. Coaches charity food drive fundraiser from 6 to 7:15 p.m. and 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. at the Poirier Sport and Leisure Complex (633 Poirier St., Coquitlam). Admission is by a non-perishable food donation to Share Family and Community Services (cash donations also accepted).

Glen Pine Pavilion - a Coquitlam seniors' centre - gets into the Christmas spirit with an old fashioned bazaar, from 1 to 5 p.m. at 1200 Glen Pine Crt., with handmade crafts and jewellery. Free parking is available underground or at nearby city hall. Call 604-927-4386.

FAMILY TIME

Check out the new exhibits at Coquitlam's Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave.) during Family Day from 1:30 to 3:30 p.m. Participants can drop into the workshops and hear artist Marina Crawford talk about her photography display, titled... still life in Vancouver... Have your pooch or kitty snapped with Santa at the Port Coquitlam SPCA's fourth annual Christmas pet photos event.
