Five students at the Coquitlam Basic Education (CABE) school are scholarship winners.Last month, Wesbild presented its LIFT accolades to fund post-secondary education for (left to right) Dylan Fairleigh, Jessica MacDonald, Jacob Finamore, Garrett Broad and Stuart McBeth.

Royal Columbian Hospital Foundation's Feroza Jamal and Eleanor Ryrie recently received a cheque from Jina Sarkis-Dina, pharmacist-owner of Coquitlam's Shoppers Drug Mart (Westwood Plateau) for $15,514 on behalf of the owners and managers of nine Shoppers Drug Mart locations in Coquitlam, Port Moody, Burnaby and New Westminster. Those Shoppers stores raised the cash through their Tree of Life campaign in support of RCH's cardiac services program to advance women's cardiac health.

BC Premier Christy Clark last month handed over a Queen's Jubilee medal to two retired Tri-City municipal recreation directors. Don Cunnings was the city of Coquitlam's first rec director from the 1950s; Clark also passed on a Jubilee accolade to Clyde Griffith, Port Coquitlam's first rec director from the 1960s. Other recipients included the late Michael Cuccione of Coquitlam; Const. Andre Haaksma of Port Coquitlam; Const. Sean Hackman of Coquitlam; and Leon Lebrun of Coquitlam. The medal was created last year to mark Queen Elizabeth's 60th year on the throne.
