Are you a newcomer to Canada? Are you interested in connecting your skills to the Canadian workplace?
Immigrant Services Society of BC (ISSBC) is hosting a free session on Monday on Skills Connect for Immigrants at its ELSA office, 136-3030 Lincoln Ave., Coquitlam, Room 103.
You may qualify for the Nov. 25 program if you:
have been in Canada for less than five years and are a permanent resident;
are unemployed or underemployed (working outside of your field or at a lower level);
are eager to learn and motivated to build your career in Canada;
have a clear and reasonable job target;
can speak at an intermediate to advanced level of English;
At a session, facilitated by an employment counsellor, you can learn about Skills Connect, an initiative by ISSBC that helps ease the transition of skilled immigrants into the Canadian workforce by connecting them with industry-specific skills training, credential evaluation and job search services. The presentation and screening run from 2 to 4 p.m.

Take trip at Fox library
Fancy a canoe trip - a big one?
You can join adventure travellers Barbara and Chris Cooper on a trip around the Shetland Islands, the most northerly section of the British Isles, next Tuesday at Port Coquitlam's Terry Fox Library.
Chris Cooper and his team negotiated tricky seas in the Spirit Dancer canoe with the help of Shetlanders. The Nov. 26 presentation runs from 7 to 8 p.m.; the program is free but registration is appreciated by calling 604-927-7999.
