Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) is a rapidly progressive, neuromuscular disease. It attacks the motor neurons that transmit electrical impulses from the brain to the voluntary muscles in the body. When these muscles fail to receive messages, they lose strength, atrophy and die.

ALS can hit anyone at any, time regardless of age, gender, or ethnic origin, according to the ALS Society of B.C.

On Saturday Aug. 13th, the First Annual Tri-Cities Walk for ALS will take place at Town Centre Park (in the grass area west of Lafarge Lake), Coquitlam.

Registration is at 10 a.m. with the 5km walk getting under way at 11 a.m. Everyone is welcome.

Individuals and groups can join the walk or create their own website at www.walkforals.ca.
