Are you looking for a volunteer opportunity helping children in Grades 2 to 4 in a local school? Can you speak French or English? Do you enjoy interacting with children and discussing books?
Porter Street elementary school in Coquitlam is looking for adults - French-speaking volunteers to support its French immersion classes and English-speaking volunteers to support English classes - to act as guided reading group leaders during two half-hour sessions each week. During each session, the group leader will support a small group of students as they read aloud and discuss an appropriately levelled text.
All materials and lessons will be provided by the teacher and some training will be provided to volunteers before the program begins.
Volunteers must be able to work at the school from 9:15 to 9:45 a.m. on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday mornings.
