Unauthorized drone in YVR flight path prompts warning from police

This is illegal and charges will be pursued, say police.

An illegal drone operation in the flight path for Vancouver International Airport in the North Delta area is prompting a safety message from Delta police.

Delta police are alerting the public to an unauthorized drone in the YVR flight path in North Delta which is putting safety at risk.

According to police in the past two days, an unknown individual has flown a drone at an altitude of 3,500 feet in the flight path of Vancouver International Airport (YVR) over North Delta.

“This is illegal, extremely dangerous, and poses a serious risk to the safety of passengers, airline crews, and people on the ground,” said police in a post on their Facebook page. “Flying drones in restricted airspace is a major threat to aviation and could result in devastating consequences. The Delta Police Department is actively investigating, and we will pursue charges if the suspect is identified.”
