A preliminary hearing for a man accused of shooting a doctor in downtown Vancouver has begun.
Justin Delaney Littlewolfe, 33, is charged with one count of discharging a firearm and one count of aggravated assault in connection with the April 2024 shooting on Homer Street and West Pender Street.
The preliminary hearing is taking place before Judge Laura Bakan in in Vancouver Provincial Court.
The Vancouver Police Department said officers responded to reports of shots fired around 7:50 p.m. on April 3, 2024, and found a 46-year-old man suffering serious injuries.
The shooting suspect fled as police were responding, but was later identified and taken into custody on April 12, 2024.
Police did not believe the victim was the intended target of the shooting. He suffered serious injuries.
Littlewolfe remains in custody.
Preliminary hearings are held to determine if enough evidence exists to proceed to trial. The contents of such hearings are covered by a publication ban.
After pleading not guilty to the charges, Littlewolfe elected to be tried by a provincial court judge.
