BMW clocked above 200 km/h, double the speed limit, on Trans-Canada Highway

The driver was issued a $483 excessive speeding ticket and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Over a four-day period, Sicamous Mounties impounded a half-dozen vehicles for excessive speeding on the Trans-Canada Highway, including a rented BMW busted at more than 200 km/h.

A little before 2 p.m. on Friday, a Sicamous RCMP constable spotted an Infiniti G35 passing vehicles on the Trans-Canada Highway at very high speeds.

“The vehicle was confirmed on radar to be travelling at 163 km/h in the 100 km/h zone near Malakwa road,” said Sicamous RCMP Sgt. Murray McNeil.

The driver was issued a $368 ticket for excessive speeding and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

Later that night, at approximately 10 p.m., Mounties spotted a BMW travelling eastbound at extreme speeds on the Trans-Canada Highway near Malakwa Loop road.

“The officer confirmed the speed of the vehicle to be 202 km/h, which is more than double the posted 100 km/h limit,” McNeil said.

When police stopped the BMW it was found to be a rental car from Ontario, the driver was issued a $483 excessive speeding ticket and the vehicle was impounded for seven days.

“Rental car companies charge their clients for the impoundment and recovery costs when their vehicles are impounded which will add to the driver's cost for his excessive speeding,” McNeil said.

The next day also saw Sicamous officers impound two vehicles for excessive speeding on the Trans-Canada Highway.

Both vehicles were busted at approximately 150 km/h on the Trans Canada Highway and were issued $368 excessive speeding tickets before having their vehicles impounded for a week.

On Monday, a Sicamous Mountie saw a Camaro speeding eastbound on Highway 1 while approaching Sicamous.

The officer clocked the Camaro at 145 km/h before pulling the sports car over and issuing a $368 excessive speeding ticket. The Camaro was also impounded for seven days.

On Tuesday, Sicamous RCMP officers caught a Chevrolet Silverado at 147 km/h on the four-lane stretch of Highway 1 at Malakwa. The driver was issued a $368 ticket and the truck was impounded for a week.
