A man has been charged after a woman was allegedly murdered by her partner.

Vanessa Terry, 33, was found dead at a Sq’éwqel (Seabird Island) First Nation residence on April 6, 2024.

The Integrated Homicide Investigation Team took over the case and worked with Agassiz RCMP on the file.

Four months later, the BC Prosecution Service approved one count of second-degree murder against Fredrick Paul Charlie, 36.

Cpl. Chase Smith says investigators want to extend their condolences to her loved ones and the community.

“Incidents of intimate partner violence are tragic and have devastating, long-lasting effects on families and communities,” says Smith.

He remains in custody until his first court appearance.

None of the allegations have been proven in court.
