The provincial government has announced a total of 146 new cases of COVID-19 over the long weekend, according to provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry’s latest daily update.
There have been no new deaths.
“There have been a number of new cases over the weekend,” said Henry. “This was not unexpected; we knew that events that occurred in the previous couple of weeks would lead to more people who have been exposed, developing illness.”
Many of the new cases are related to private gatherings, small parties and travel, according to Henry. There has also been some workplace transmission between coworkers.
There are now 74 cases related to Fraser Valley Packers Inc. There are no public health concerns related to the consumption of fruit.
There is a new healthcare outbreak, this time at Maple Ridge Seniors Village assisted living facility, where there is a single staff case, according to Henry. The outbreak at Mission Memorial hospital has now been declared over, leaving three active outbreaks in the province.
