A long-serving Coquitlam school trustee has decided not to run for another term.
Barb Hobson is taking a well-deserved retirement after serving for many years on the School District 43 (SD43) board of education.
"I decided to let someone else take that role,” said Hobson.
Among the accomplishments she is proud of over her most recent term is a stable financial footing, new schools and the construction of the new Education Learning Centre, which recently opened.
"Everything that I promised has been delivered and I am so pleased with the way that the school district is running," said Hobson, who was first elected in 1998 and was board chair.
She was also re-elected in 2014 and 2018.
Hobson said she is looking forward to retirement, including travel and spending more time with family, including a new grandson.
In addition to her role on school board, Hobson has been a mainstay in the local arts community, including helming the board for Place des Arts in Coquitlam.
Hobson is also past president and treasurer of the Rotary Club of Coquitlam and has been involved in a number of other volunteer posts in the community.
Meanwhile, seven people are set to campaign for four Coquitlam trustee positions on the SD43 board in the 2022 municipal election.
