The third-ranked Rapids defeated Lord Tweedsmuir Panthers 79-38 in Wednesday’s opening round.

Hart was responsible for 12 of those points while Mikeila Campanile contributed a pair of three-pointers. She finished the game with 15 points

Riverside didn’t let the respite slow their momentum as the team poured in another 22 points in the third quarter while allowing Tweedsmuir to score just four.

With a 61-27 lead heading into the final frame, Rapids coach Paul Langford was able to rest some of starters ahead of tonight’s game against sixth-seeded Yale Lions, from Abbotsford, that will be played at 7 p.m. on the LEC’s south court.

The two other teams from the Tri-Cities didn’t fare as well.

Seventh-ranked Dr. Charles Best Blue Devils lost to no. 10 Kelowna Owls, 56-42, and the Heritage Woods Kodiaks were swamped 80-49 by Seaquam.

The Coquitlam and Port Moody schools will play each other in a consolation round game at 10:15 a.m. on the south court.
